The women’s water polo team had an up-and-down weekend at the National Qualifying Women’s Water Polo Tournament in Berkeley, Calif. SDSU was swatted by old nemesis UCLA Saturday, 13-4, after opening the weekend with an 11-4 demolition of UCSD. The Aztecs played Stanford yesterday in the third-place match. Results were not available at press time and will be in Tuesday’s edition of The Daily Aztec. It was a rematch of last year’s third-place match in the Western Regional Qualification Tournament won by SDSU 8-7 in overtime. The top seven teams for this year’s tournament advance to the National Championship May 8-11 in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Some Aztecs had their best performances of the track and field season at the California-Nevada Championship at Cal State Northridge this weekend. The 400-meter relay team had its fastest time in 11 years with a 45.96 second finish. Betty Butler dropped three seconds off her 800-meter time, running it in 2:14.4. Miesha McKelvy won all three of her heats in the 100-meter dash, the 200 meter and the 100-meter hurdles.
