Customers are invited to come in and stay awhile. With all the vinyl available to check out, how could you not?

Want to throw a real party?

Check out Shine, Mark E quark, Sharky, Scott Roberts, Dale Da Dread, Skoosha, Andy Boswell, Ikah Love and Matt Kenney with expertise ranging from down tempo, trance-progressive, hip-hop/R&B, indie-dance, post-funk to psychedelic.

Whether looking to book a local DJ or to be one yourself - California Sound and Lighting is the hub for San Diego DJs and music lovers alike.

It's like traveling back in time to the cult stoner classic Empire Records. CSL is an acoustic haven in a sea of corporate musical prostitution where every aspect reaching your ears is overpriced and mass-produced, including the bright-yellow bags that come along with it.

Since the six months I spent backpacking across Europe, raging until 5 a.m. Euro-style, CSL is the first place I've found that treats electronic music with the respect it deserves. A beam of hope in the face of America's infantile obsession with shallow MTV hits.

It's a store run by DJs for DJs. CSL does pro audio, lighting, A/V installations, vinyl/CD/DVDs, music accessories, rentals/repairs and sells a variety of skateboards and apparel. CSL also supplies CDs, DVDs and vinyl all around the world.

More than just a record store, its detailed interactive online Web site is a place to download the newest employee pick of the week or to tune in and indulge in the radio show podcast. From supplying lasers to fog machines, microphones to synthesizers, CSL is not your run-of-the-mill record shop.

It is located at 1919 San Diego Ave., close to downtown but not so far in as to have to deal with the hassle of parking. If it involves music or sound and you want it - they have it or can get it.

Prizing its wide variety of tunes, passionate music connoisseurs come to CSL to get dangerously close to the art of musical creation.

Inspired by years of embracing the underground techno scene, owners Shawn Green and Sasha Leung look to create a music community where they sponsor, promote, host events and house local DJs' records.

Located next door to an art shop, this area is a hub for creative expression. It is a place for the listener and the creator or for the listener who is looking to be a creator.

On Saturdays, DJ One Man spends two hours hanging out with whoever drops by. He teaches a free scratching class from 4 to 6 p.m. Here, you can cultivate necessary skills in turntables and mixers.

Not interested in participating? CSL welcomes anyone to hang out on its couches or put on records - whether you want to talk tunes or drift off into your own musical wonderland.

Customers are always greeted as friends and fellow music lovers. The employees are eager to share the newest sound or help you discover an old treasure amongst the blue shelves.

Enter into the realm of musical ecstasy to feel the pulsing melodic beats guide you into a world clothed in vinyl as sun peers into the creative atmosphere through a wall of windows.

If you have a deep craving for sound, check it out. Better yet, bring them to the next frat party to create an atmosphere that will make you want to bar up the windows to make the night last and avoid facing the rising sun.

CSL engraves its hypnotic trance to satisfy that craving.

Support your local DJ. Meet the guys who are responsible for creating the parties you never want to stop.

Take the next step in throwing parties and stop fueling the corporate fire of musical degeneration.

Addicts of sound, CSL will help you discover talent or nourish your own.
