HIJOS DE LA MALINCHE

The Spanish rock band Hijos de la Malinche has been keeping busy since it was featured in The Daily Aztec last semester. Now, the band has much to celebrate, including the recording of its new CD. Hijos drummer Gustavo Mojica said the band hopes to complete writing about 30 new songs within the month. After the local release of this new material, Mojica said Hijos will embark on a continental tour throughout the United States, Mexico and other countries in Latin America.

THE CONFESSION

Last semester, San Diego State students were introduced to The Confession. The band recently finished a tour with Avenged Sevenfold where it had the chance to play in front of about 3,000 people. After the tour, The Confession joined the Taste of Chaos tour with bands such as Thrice, Atreyu and Deftones. As of right now, The Confession is on a break from the road to write its full-length debut album. This summer it will be on the road again - joining the Warped Tour with bands such as AFI, Sum 41 and Rise Against.

KICKING K8

Kicking K8 just released its debut album "Liar" in March. The album is currently available on MySpace through the band's homepage, www.kickingk8.com. With the pre-release, fans get limited-edition artwork and can listen to the album before it's available in stores. The band also just finished opening for Disturbed on the Jagermeister Music Tour and currently has a single playing on Music Choice. Though the band members are busy, they still take time to personally respond to messages fans post on MySpace, which can sometimes take one or two hours per night.

On May 12, Kicking K8 will play with Staind and Three Days Grace at Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula. During the summer, the band will continue on the Jagermeister Music Tour playing through August 12 in places as close as Ocean Beach and as far away as Englishtown, N.J.

CAPE MAY

After Cape May was featured in the last Local Bands issue, the band said it has stopped playing the Sandbar and are now playing venues such as The Casbah.

The band recently garnered some local media attention - it got a flattering demo review in CityBeat magazine in April and has been featured in the San Diego Reader and Music Matters magazine - and has begun working on a new album at their abode in Ocean Beach.

The four roommates are also gearing up to play at Karl Strauss Brewing Company's Beach to Brewery Beer and Music Fest on May 13 alongside Ozomatli. And as if the boys of May weren't busy enough as it is, they're currently arranging a summer tour of the West Coast that will begin in San Diego and end in Vancouver, Canada.

RIO

SDSU alumnus Mario "Rio" Holten has been quite a busy individual since The Daily Aztec introduced him in last semester's Local Bands issue. His group, Enemy Of The State, debuted its album, "I Like It Like That," at the end of last year. In addition, Rio recently recorded a well-circulated song with Bay Area legend Keak Da Sneak, which will be the lead single off his upcoming album. The track, "If Ur Stupid," has appeared on several major radio stations, including 98.9 FM. Rio is also making at least one guest appearance on SL 500's album as well along with a live performance taking place on May 12 at Chuey's off of Main Street. Former Aztec and current Charger Kassim Osgood and Oakland Raider Kirk Morrison are hosting the show, which is being labeled "The Bay To The Border."
