San Diego State continues to make strides in providing quality education, particularly among minority students.
SDSU placed eighth among nationwide universities that award bachelor's degrees to Hispanics, according to the rankings published in this week's issue of Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education.
The rankings were based on student information from the 2005-06 academic year, when SDSU conferred 1,184 bachelor's degrees to Hispanic students, according to the press release. SDSU was also recognized for awarding undergraduate degrees to Hispanics in four specific program areas: protective services, psychology, public administration and social services.
"SDSU is committed to educating diverse students, and our ranking confirms that commitment," Provost Nancy Marlin said in a press release. "Through our preparation and outreach programs, including the Compact for Success, we hope to increase the number of diverse students that receive a degree from our university. We are extremely proud of the ethnic diversity of our students."
In 2006, SDSU ranked ninth for universities awarding undergraduate degrees to Hispanics.
Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education produces the "Top 100 Colleges for Hispanics" list each year based on information provided by the U.S. Department for Education's National Center of Education Statistics.
