Men’s basketball team earns three All-conference awards:

San Diego State clinched the regular-season Mountain West Conference Championship with a convincing 91-72 victory against Wyoming last Wednesday.

Less than aoneweek later SDSU got yet another reward, as three Aztecs were awarded All-MWC honors.

Junior guard Brandon Heath was named Player of the Year, and he, along with junior forward Marcus Slaughter, both earned unanimous first-team honors.

Junior forward Mohamed Abukar was also awarded second-team honors in his first season in the MWC. SDSU was the only team with three honorees.

BYU brought home both Coach of the Year (Dave Rose) and Freshman of the Year (center Trent Plaisted) honors.

Masterson named Pitcher of the Week after huge win:

Junior Justin Masterson was named the MWC Pitcher of the Week after giving up just one run in eight innings and striking out 11 batters to lead SDSU to a 3-1 win over then-No. 12 Pepperdine last Friday. It was his second win of the season.

Strawberry first Aztec to earn honorable mention since 2002:

Aztec senior forward Michelle Strawberry was named to the All-MWC honorable mention team for the second consecutive time. Strawberry led the team in scoring with a career-high 13.2 points per game, and became the first SDSU player since 2002 to be named MWC Player of the Week after a 22-point, 11 rebound effort against Portland State last December.
