BOOB TUBE SCOOP: Dr. Gregory House is back with a vengeance

With a new season on the horizon, the FOX drama “House” has found a new prime time spot. The latest episode had a more twisted approach to the insatiable Emmy- nominated series.

A sardonic medical genius, Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) is a rare character that makes the show both intriguing and addicting. Despite his personality faults, the hospital team is continuously looking to House to solve medical mysteries. When unexpected problems and dilemmas abound, House is always able to answer the unexplainable, fatal or not.

In the season premier, “Dying Changes Everything,” airing Tuesday, Sept. 16, Princeton-Plainsboro Hospital experiences changes as Dr. Robert Leonard Wilson, the department head of oncology, decides to leave his position. Previously, House had survived a bus accident that left dozens seriously injured, which left him confused and angry as he tried to convince Wilson to stay.

After the death of Wilson’s girlfriend, Amber (Anne Dudek), and a shattered friendship with House, Wilson decides to resign and recover emotionally. Wilson contemplates whether House is a negative influence in his life, while House mulls over his responsibility in Amber’s death.

With House preoccupied, the hospital team is left to move forward as they encounter an assistant to a high-profile feminist with unrelated ailments. Suspecting that the patient’s symptoms stem from her demanding job, the team tests several different diagnoses.

One of the interns, Thirteen (Olivia Wilde), finds herself trying to stay objective as she becomes emotionally invested in the case. After being diagnosed with Huntington’s disease in the previous season, House criticizes Thirteen for allowing her own medical condition to affect the way she thinks as a doctor. The team eventually finds it must start thinking like House in order save this patient’s life.

During the one-hour fifth season premier, viewers will find out whether or not Thirteen is able to put her personal life aside to diagnose the dying patient, and if House can control his sarcasm long enough to keep Wilson a member of Princeton-Plainsboro.

The first episode sets the tone for the dramatic and enthralling season to come, and now is the time to start fostering an addiction to the dynamic of “House.”
