The deep blue dive

Many people who reside in San Diego usually travel thousands of miles, be it to Hawaii or the Caribbean for snorkeling and various water adventures. For some people, it may come as a surprise that in the high-end burg of La Jolla, snorkeling is as big of an attraction to those visiting San Diego, as it is in other resort-oriented regions of the world.

One of the most popular places to snorkel in San Diego is La Jolla Cove, situated inside the Ecological Reserve inside the San Diego La Jolla Underwater Park. People hoping to see various marine wildlife will not be disappointed in what they find here.

Did you know that San Diego State has ostriches?

Yes, as in the creatures known to bury their heads in the ground when frightened, thinking that because they can’t see anything around them, they can’t be seen either. Fun fact: Ostriches don’t actually bury their heads. They lay it flat on the ground.

FACETIOUS FEMINIST: Same-sex marriage is about civil rights

If you’re a fair-minded person who’s also a churchgoer, odds are you’re finding yourself in a bind this November. This election includes statewide ballot initiative Proposition 8, which proposes an amendment to the constitution of California officially titled “Eliminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry,” or, as those who proposed the measure want you to call it, the “California Marriage Protection Act.” The text of the proposal reads simply, “Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.”

‘Bystander effect’ addressed

Ninety percent of sexual assaults in the San Diego State area are not committed by a masked stranger in a dark alley, but by someone already acquainted with the victim. This was one of several major points hammered out last Tuesday during a presentation at Sigma Phi Epsilon.

Tragic ending for stab victim

Tragic ending for stab victim

A violent fight early Saturday morning near Peterson Gymnasium resulted in the fatal stabbing of 22-year-old Mesa College student, Luis Felipe Watson dos Santos.

His mother and father, who live in Concord, said they are grieving his death, as well as remembering Luis’ life. His 23-year-old sister Brigida, who lives in Los Angeles, and his many friends at Mesa College, as well as those in the San Diego State community, are also remembering his vibrant personality and entertaining character.
