The night before the journey to Long Beach for the San Diego State men’s basketball team’s season opener, I decided a running diary was in order.

We live in a fast-paced, technologically savvy, digital age; apparently, some people just can’t keep up with the rules.

Your pocketbook is about to take another hit. Yes, your student fees are making yet another painful jump. Last Tuesday, the California State University Board of Trustees voted to increase fees by 5 percent for spring and another 10 percent in fall, adding up to a total increase of 76 percent from just five years ago.

Ask anyone to describe California, and three things will come to mind: beautiful beaches, beautiful weather and beautiful women. Songs are written about it, television shows portray it and the media depicts us as individuals who pride ourselves on appearance. Sadly enough, we seem to enjoy this label all too much. The embarrassing truth of how demeaning it is should be reason enough for us to inspire change.

Here in the U.S. we are told that ambition is the key to success. Our capitalist economy relies on competition to drive it forward beneath the claim that only the most hardworking and driven people will come out on top.

On Friday, the San Diego State women’s basketball team played in a game where points were hard to come by.

No one outside of Montezuma Mesa gave the San Diego State football team a chance to upset No. 3 TCU on Saturday.

On Saturday afternoon, the SDSU Sports Deck was packed with lively UCLA and San Diego State fans as the eighth-ranked Bruins defeated SDSU 3-1 on Senior Day. While the Aztecs (10-7-2, 3-6-1 Pac-10) concluded their season with a loss, five seniors were celebrated for their efforts.
