PASS THE POPCORN: ‘Tangled’ marks the return of the princess

Remember the days when Disney used to be all about the princess story? When all the girls clamored to get the new Jasmine or Mulan costume for Halloween? Well, many of today’s kids haven’t had that experience, which is why the studio’s “Tangled” might go down as an easy classic for the new generation. With the exception of last year’s “The Princess and the Frog,” Disney has been all about monsters (“Lilo & Stitch”), aliens (“Meet the Robinsons”) and talking dogs (“Bolt”). That is all fine and great, but “Tangled” has the potential to enchant youngsters as well as bring back that nostalgic feeling to parents.

TSA airport scanners protect our nation

One of our city’s finest made headlines across America last week. John Tyner, 31, of Oceanside was ejected from San Diego International Airport after refusing to participate in the newly deployed full-body scanners. Tyner recorded the 30-minute confrontation, then went and posted it all on his blog as soon as he got home.

ALL THE WORLD’S A STAGE: SDSU’s very own ‘Paradise’ now at Don Powell

The first play of the season at the Don Powell Theatre is a good old-fashioned screwball comedy. Taking place in Paris in 1908, “Paradise Hotel” is about a man, Benoit Pinglet, who is in a loveless marriage with his cruel wife Angelique. Benoit finds out that his best friend Henri Paillardin is also having marital difficulties with his spouse Marcelle. Because Benoit has an obvious crush on Marcelle, he persuades her to have an affair with him.
