Director Darren Aronofsky’s days of being snubbed by the Academy are finally finished. Paving the way for his Oscar redemption was 2008′s “The Wrestler,” and now with “Black Swan,” Aronofsky delivers another powerful character study about a ballerina driven mad by her hunger for perfection.

There is something off about Director David O. Russell’s new boxing flick, aside from Christian Bale’s meth-affected eye contact. Bale’s character, Dicky Eklund, is just one of a colorful cast of family members represented in Russell’s big-screen version of Massachusetts boxing legend “Irish” Micky Ward’s rise to fame.

During the week of Nov. 15, vandals defaced a student-made poster promoting a talk by Itamar Marcus, founder of Palestinian Media Watch. Anti-Israel and anti-semitic slogans were painted on the banner, as was a graphic equating the Star of David with a swastika.

Most students returned from Thanksgiving break stuffed from holiday feasts. San Diego State student Morgan Sacco came back feeling empty. His sister, Aubrey Sacco, was last seen trekking through Nepal in April; she has been missing ever since.
