Most people don’t know what noise a peacock makes. I didn’t, until I got a job at the zoo last summer. The cool thing about the San Diego Zoo is it doesn’t cage its peacocks. Instead, the six or seven of them run around the park free as birds – pun intended.

Before the tipoff of Saturday’s game against Wichita State, San Diego State head coach Steve Fisher didn’t tell his team to be careful of an upset-minded WSU. He didn’t say the Shockers would be a tougher test than St. Mary’s was last Wednesday, or that a win would give No. 17 SDSU only the third 8-0 record in school history.

Once a student is admitted to San Diego State, they may hold the assumption that the only tests they will take will be in their classes — but that isn’t the case. All SDSU students have to take the Writing Placement Assessment and certain majors have required evaluations to complete before entering the program.

Breaking into the San Diego college scene just this year, thelbbsd.com, or The Little Black Book, is a social networking site exclusively for students who attend SDSU, University of San Diego, Point Loma Nazarene and UC San Diego.

With spring comes infant birds, budding flowers and college acceptance letters. During this time of animal noises and sweet smells, many high school seniors’ homes fill with excitement and anxiety. According to an article by mother and daughter pair Margo E. Bane Woodacre and Steffany Bane, the reality of big change causes emotions to fly and tempers to flair.
