Creationism has no place in biology classes

Pseudoscience is still flooding into our nation’s public high schools. Data reported by the National Survey of High School Biology Teachers revealed that 13 percent of U.S. high school biology educators advocate creationism in class, while 60 percent tiptoe around the controversial evolution vs. creationism topic so as not to offend religious students and parents.

Oscar Short Films impress audiences

The Academy’s annual wooing of the masses with Oscar nominations has stretched over into the short film category. Oscar-nominated short films are usually among the most eclectic and least seen of all the nominees, but this year we have an adapted tale from a popular children’s book and a short that was featured in the theater-run of “Toy Story 3.” Only three American films make up the 10 nominees, making this category the most international, even beating out the Foreign Language Film category.

O’Sullivan’s gone, but Aztecs move on

Ryan O’Sullivan was expected to be a key contributor for the San Diego State baseball team this season. After junior ace Addison Reed was drafted, O’Sullivan looked to be one of the players who would fill Reed’s shoes. Plus, he was arguably the team’s best infielder.

Turtle mauling at SDSU pond, one student killed

SAN DIEGO STATE — In yet another case of Valentine’s Day gone hopelessly wrong, one SDSU student was violently mauled by turtles in SDSU’s turtle pond.
