VP of External Affairs, Krista Parker, on reaching out to the surrounding community on behalf of the students. Questions by Tom Hammel, Opinion Editor.
TH: What past experience do you have that makes you qualified to manage external affairs?
Krista Parker: I have sat on external affairs for two years now and I have been a member of the lobby core for two years along with being the chair of the neighbor program so I deal with the community alog with lobbying.
TH: How do you plan to reach out to the surrounding community on behalf of the students during your term?
KP: Like I said previously, I am the chair of the neighbor program so I do work a lot with the community, I sit on the college area community council and outreach to them a lot. I am also a member of the lobby core so I’ve been to different legislator’s offices discussing the budget and advocating on the rights of students. Next year I plan to expand that from a local to a state and federal level to expand the fact that SDSU has been doing so well athletically, and so now that we’re on the map we have the ability to really put our name out there and show that we are hurting in regards to our budget cuts.
