OMFG! 2014 starts the New Year off right

OMFG! NYE 2014; what a perfect name for a New Year’s show full of fun, festivities and, of course, a stacked lineup with some of the biggest names in EDM. For two days, Valley View Casino Center was transformed into a mecca for New Year’s celebrations.

Starting things off strong were LED resident DJ Brazzabelle and electro house act Henrix. Bro Safari took the stage next and brought a heavy driving trap set that was a refreshing break of pace from the growing generic trap sets, full of a flurry of 808 hi-hats and banging bass lines. Feed Me, who played the NYE countdown at OMFG! LA, delivered a high octane set of his own unique electro sound. Adding to the already stacked lineup, 19-year-old French prodigy Madeon pumped the venue full of his own blend of nu-disco and electro house. The big acts continued, as day one came to a close. Filipino-Dutch producer Laidback Luke took the stage for an extended set, and Australian sisters Nervo kept the party alive until the very end of the evening.

Setting the stage for day two was the up-and-coming Cole Plante. At only the age of 17, Plante was younger than the attendees who came out to see him perform. San Diego native Ookay took to the decks and delivered an energetic trap-filled set, even having some fun with the crowd and throwing in his now talked about “Animals” remix spliced with “Old McDonald Had a Farm.”  DJ Snake, who had an explosive year in 2013, delivered an amazing set, full of party anthems and melodic moments.

Keeping the booty-bouncing music going, Miami-based duo GTA helped ring in the New Year and start 2014 off with a bang. Boys Noize continued the party into 2014, with his personal blend of hip-hop, disco roots and industrial electro house sounds. Nero brought a taste of the U.K. with them, lighting up the stage with blistering sounds of drum. bass and heavy hitting dubstep. Closing their set, the group played Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” as the crowd sang along, making for one of the most poignant moments of the night. In what should have been the explosive ending to a fantastic New Year’s party, the event fizzled out into a disappointing, short-timed set from industry giant Diplo. Arriving late, Diplo was scheduled for a plethora of New Year’s Eve shows, and sadly OMFG! NYE 2014 caught the short end of the stick. Diplo was slow to pick up the slack. As one concertgoer poignantly put it, “Get your s— together Diplo!” What followed was an embarrassment to all those that came out to see the big-name, bad-boy-bachelor, booty- twerking-instigator. It was a routine set: Play a few hits, bring up girls for his classic “twerk-wall” and call it quits after only about 50 minutes.

All in all, OMFG! NYE 2014 was one, if not the best, way to spend your New Year’s. LED has been building a solid repertoire of fantastic events and continually pulls in the biggest performers in EDM.
