In the San Diego State football team’s game against Fresno State Saturday evening at Qualcomm Stadium, SDSU found itself down 21-0 in the second quarter.

On Saturday at Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego State football fans will get to see the revival of an in-state rivalry, when Fresno State (4-8, 3-4 WAC) comes to town.

The San Diego State football team has set a trend this season that has been so consistent, it could almost be scripted: start out sluggish in the first half, fall into an early hole, then turn on the jets in the second half and come out with the win in the end.

On Saturday night at Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego State discovered firsthand that Boise State was for real.
And SDSU found out the hard way.

The San Diego State football team had to beat both Colorado State and Mother Nature if it wanted to win on Saturday night in Fort Collins and become bowl eligible for the second season in a row.

It wasn’t the prettiest game, but the San Diego State football team took care of business and beat New Mexico 35-7 Saturday night at Qualcomm Stadium.

Too many points given up in the first half, not enough plays made by the offense and a game-tying field goal that sailed wide of the uprights.

San Diego State is located in a city with beautiful beaches, perpetually warm weather and a population of more than a million people.

Three weeks after the San Diego State defense was beaten up by Denard Robinson and Michigan, and only five days after senior quarterback Ryan Lindley and sophomore running back Ronnie Hillman played their worst games of the season against TCU, things could have gotten ugly for SDSU against Air Force in Colorado Springs last Thursday, where the Aztecs hadn’t won in seven years.

With the loss to Michigan two weeks ago, the San Diego State football team didn’t get a revenge win against former SDSU head coach Brady Hoke.
