Two-thirds of The Daily Aztec Sports team (Sorry Pope) will be heading out to Providence, R.I. in a few hours. Before we go, check out some of today's NCAA Tournament news and notes: SDSU women's basketball pep rally tomorrow The San Diego State women's basketball team will hold a pep rally in front of Viejas Arena at 4 p.m. tomorrow. The Aztecs will head out to Austin, Texas shortly after. SDSU will take on the Longhorns at 4:11 p.m. PT on Sunday. Thomas makes cover of Sports Illustrated ... ...Sort of. In today's issue of Sports Illustrated, hundreds of college basketball players are featured on the cover. The San Diego State women's basketball team will play Texas in the NCAA Tournament at 4:11 p.m. on Sunday in Austin, Texas. SDSU earned a No. 11 seed, which is where head coach Beth Burns thought the Aztecs would land, and will take on the No. 6-seeded Longhorns at the Frank Erwin Special Events Center. "I just can't be more excited for our team, our coaching staff and all of our fans," senior guard Kim Spinardi said. "It means a lot to be here two years in a row when a few years ago they weren't even close to it. Words can't express how excited we are." Last year, SDSU beat Texas at Viejas Arena, 60-55. The San Diego State men's basketball team earned an 11 seed on Selection Sunday and will take on Tennessee in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday in the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, RI. The Aztecs gathered in the Aztec Athletics Center auditorium at 3 p.m. today and watched the unveiling of the NCAA Division I men’s basketball bracket. After the team found out its spot in the Tournament, the Aztecs talked about their selection. "I think we match up pretty well" with Tennessee, freshman forward Kawhi Leonard said.
