Quake aid sought by campus groups

Although Japan is known for being prone to seismic activity, the 9.0-magnitude earthquake that hit this island nation delivered the most powerful cataclysm, and subsequent tsunami, in recorded history.

Earthquake death toll continues to rise

Reports from Japan say the death toll from Thursday night’s earthquake and subsequent tsunami in the thousands. The 8.9 magnitude earthquake — the largest ever in the country — hit the east coast of Japan, which triggered a deadly tsunami, killing hundreds of people instantly.
