SOFTBALL: Aztecs becoming their own worst enemy

Mistakes holding talent-laden SDSU back from success

On paper, the San Diego State softball team has a fully stocked arsenal. The team has two ace pitchers - junior Christina Ross and sophomore Melissa Owens. It has outscored opponents by 16 runs. It has a team batting average of .289. But despite having a winning record, SDSU (11-8) is disappointed with its midseason performance.

MEN'S TENNIS: SDSU relieved after snapping losing streak

The San Diego State men's tennis team can finally relax. Players slapped hands and hugged; the weight removed from their shoulders was evident in the smiles on their faces. SDSU may be only 3-5, but 3-5 never felt so good. The Aztecs defeated UC Irvine 5-2 on Thursday at the Aztec Tennis Center to snap the team's five-game losing streak, and the players were obviously happy about it.

CLUB SPORTS: Ice hockey team completes full turnaround

Last Monday night, the San Diego State club hockey team gathered at Woodstock's for one last fundraising dinner before its 6 a.m. flight to Fort Wayne, Ind. Head coach David Hough, team president and senior forward Adam York and senior forward Will Charland sat together and reflected on the past season and task that lay ahead: making their first appearance in the American Collegiate Hockey Association Division III National Championships.
