Students push SDSU to recycle more

A.S., green student group work with physical plant to make more recycling bins

Last semester, members of the Enviro-Business Society uncovered a green inequity on San Diego State's campus - trash cans outnumber recycling bins by a 13-1 ratio. However, Associated Students is working with the physical plant and SDSU administrators to see that the distribution of waste to recycling receptacles is an even split.

Cheat with Facebook?

Facebook has many uses. Posting pictures, keeping in touch with your friends and meeting new people are just a few of the things you can do on the social networking Web site. And now, cheating in class? Recently, a student at Ryerson University in Toronto, was accused of cheating for creating a chemistry group on Facebook where students in his class exchanged tips on homework questions.

GREEK BEAT: Speaker shares cautionary tale of drinking

Most college students don't associate a night of partying with death, but for 19-year-old Samantha Spady, it was a reality. Spady, a former Colorado State University student, died on Sept. 5, 2004 of acute alcohol poisoning after she was left alone in a room of the CSU Sigma Pi Fraternity house to sleep off a day of heavy drinking.

More than 200 arrests are made each year at San Diego State for alcohol violations. At least one SDSU student is killed or severely injured in an alcohol related accident or incident. More than 90 percent of all sexual assaults on campus involve alcohol or drug use on part of the victim and/or suspect.

T.J. mayor cancels

Tijuana mayor Jorge Ramos-Hernandez, who was scheduled to speak at San Diego State today, has canceled his appearance, citing a last-minute commitment. Ramos will send a representative to speak on his behalf. The event, "Tijuana: Una Ciudad con Futuro," will be held at 7 p.
