IRVINE — I want to tell you a story. A story that might give you a little insight as to how the San Diego State baseball team traveled an hour and a half or so up to Irvine to get romped 5-1 by Virginia in this past Friday’s NCAA Regional. This story takes place on the Cavaliers’ practice field, some 2,000 miles away from San Diego. Six-foot-1-inch, 185-pound Phil Gosselin is taking swings at a pitching machine about 35 feet away from home plate. He’s doing this because there’s a pitcher at SDSU — Virginia’s Friday evening opponent — named Stephen Strasburg.
