From legendary to utterly forgettable, music has always been defined by an artist’s ability to amaze listeners with unparalleled skill and superior live performances. It is when someone is unable to describe an artist that they become great.

On June 18, the always-intimate concert venue Soma opened its doors for a night of fun with Talk Cute!, So Long Davey!, Von Iva and Jeffree Star, the latter two creating the ultimate dance party that was on the brink of an extreme sexual explosion.

When it comes to the narcissistic one-man band known as Talk Cute!, being labeled as undefined is actually the farthest reach of a compliment one would dare to offer. With skills not surpassing that of its prepubescent appearance, Talk Cute! left the talent at the door and ultimately left audience members asking themselves, “WTF?!”

So Long Davey! turned up the heat with its shirtless front man David Vaughn, who belted out a number of songs including the lively “You Got Me.” Decked out in a neon green bandana and pants with suspenders, Vaughn rocked the 30-minute set closing out with a graceful stage-dive, and the take-home message of the day: “You can wear makeup, but you can’t say bitches.”

When it comes to mixing the mainstream addiction to Katy Perry and Lady GaGa with the sexual prowess of Jenna Jameson, Jillian Iva of the Von Iva trio has the act down straight. From her retro, skin tight get-up to her lyrically dynamic songs such as "Emerald Eyes” and “LALA,” Iva puts Von Iva on the map when it comes to superior stage presence and performance.

Despite having a fractured elbow, Star still managed to perform an entire headlining set from beginning to end with energy to spare. Star performed hits from the 2009 album “Beauty Killer” and even dipped back into the splendor of 2008’s “Cupcakes Taste like Violence” and 2007’s “Plastic Surgery Slumber Party.” Star’s following tends to be predominantly comprised of an 18 and younger crowd, yet still captures the attention of the 21 and older crowd ultimately creating an unwavering fan base. All in all, the rainbow sorbet-colored hair and the increasing number and variety of tattoos Star displays are more than just a fashion statement; to some fans it’s a way of life.
