A Rocket to the Moon — “On Your Side”
Pop-punk is back, still in the form of Vans-clad skinny teenagers singing about having a crush on the girl in math class. This time it comes from Massachusetts-based band A Rocket to the Moon and its debut album “On Your Side,” from the label Fueled by Ramen.

The CD is produced by Matt Squire, whose résumé includes Panic! At The Disco, Boys Like Girls, The Used and 3OH!3, but mostly resembles the soft rock of The Maine.

“On Your Side” opens with the tough yet sweet single “Annabelle” which shows off lead singer Nick Santino’s pleasing voice and guitarist Justin Richards’ somewhat impressive talent. This quickly moves into “Mr. Right,” a song that may be the best on the album. The album continues with peppy, simple melodies until the end, only slowing down for the pseudo-ballad “Like We Used To.”

What sets A Rocket to the Moon apart from other bands of the genre is its ability to create song diversity. Not all its songs sound the same, proving its creativity and may foreshadow future success. It is a perfect album for long car rides because it is entertaining yet simple. Although many times Santino sings about the girl he can’t have, the rhythms are catchy and the music is worth the listen.
